Bhaktapur, Mangsir 28, 2080 Thursday - In a splendid ceremony held at Khwopa Engineering College, the 22nd annual function of the institution, along with the 15th annual celebration of Khwopa College of Engineering, was inaugurated with great enthusiasm. The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Narayan Man Bijukchhen, the Chairman of the Nepal Workers and Peasants' Party, who was honored as the Chief Guest for the event.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the Panas, the cultural lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge. Chairman Bijukchhen, in his opening remarks, emphasized the noble objectives of the colleges undertaken by the Bhaktapur Municipality. He highlighted the importance of serving the people and the nation selflessly through educational initiatives.
During his address, Chairman Bijukchhen shared valuable insights with the faculty, urging them to inspire graduates to glean from both national and international experiences. He emphasized the need for students to apply their acquired knowledge in the service of the nation and its people. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of keeping abreast of national and international issues, encouraging faculties and students alike to stay informed and engaged.
Expressing satisfaction with the active involvement of Nepali students in pertinent global issues, Chairman Bijukchhen acknowledged their efforts in organizing and participating in protests against Israeli war crimes and in solidarity with Palestine. However, he did not shy away from expressing his disappointment in the Nepal Government's perceived failure to adequately support victims of the recent earthquake that struck various parts of the country.
Chairperson of the inaugural program, Sunil Prajapati, who serves as both the Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality and Chairman of the College Management Committee, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Narayan Man Bijukchhen, and other distinguished guests. Prajapati set the tone for the event by expressing his gratitude for their presence at this momentous occasion. Surendra Raj Gosain, Member of Parliament for Bagmati Province, expressed his delight at the impactful contributions of the colleges during the inaugural ceremony. Despite the nation's adoption of neo-liberal policies endorsing privatization in sectors like education and health, Gosain praised the colleges under Bhaktapur Municipality for providing affordable and quality education to the community. He voiced concern over the impact of these policies, blaming the political parties in power for creating a scenario where hundreds of thousands of students are compelled to pursue higher education abroad annually.
Professor Sushil Bajracharya, Assistant Dean at the Institute of Engineering, extended hearty congratulations to both Khwopa Engineering College and Khwopa College of Engineering for their remarkable achievements and notable progress within a short span of establishment. Prof. Bajracharya conveyed his happiness at having the opportunity to contribute to both institutions in various capacities since their inception. Furthermore, he shared valuable insights into the progress and future plans of the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, underscoring the collaborative efforts aimed at advancing engineering education and research.
Basanta Bhattarai, Chief Administrative Officer of Bhaktapur Municipality, extended his warmest wishes to both Khwopa Engineering College and Khwopa College of Engineering during the inaugural ceremony. He reiterated the municipality's unwavering commitment to providing continuous support to the colleges in their endeavors.
During the program, Sujan Maka and Sunil Duwal, the principals of Khwopa Engineering College (KhEC) and Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE) respectively, presented a comprehensive progress report for the fiscal year 2079/80. The detailed report highlighted the achievements, milestones, and academic advancements made by both institutions.
Additionally, the Chief Guest, Narayan Man Bijukchhen, took a moment to recognize and appreciate the dedication of the faculties and staff members who have served the colleges for 10 and 20 years. A special ceremony ensued, where the Chairman of the college bestowed medals and certificates upon the winners of various events organized as part of the annual function, adding a celebratory and appreciative touch to the proceedings.
