The field work of Engineering Geology for the B.E. Civil Engineering II/I (Batch 2078) as per requirement in the syllabus was conducted around Malekhu area of Dhading District from Shrawan 14th to 19th, 2080. The field work was led by Dr. Subeg Man Bijukchhen, Mamata Sayami, Nirmal Kafle, Jaya Prajapati and Amar Karmacharya.
The field work was divided into two parts. The schedule from Shrawan 14th to 16th was fieldwork for C/D section (48 students) and Shrawan 17th to 19th was for the A/B section (44 students). The students of each section were divided into eight groups so that learning would be easier through teamwork and group discussion. They learned about the identification of rock and geological structures, classification of rockmass, river morphology, and mitigation techniques of landslides in the field. They also got hands-on experience on use of geological compass as well. The students also visited the adit tunnel of at damsite of proposed Buddhi Gandaki HEP to study the challenges of dam and tunnel construction in the Himalayas,
The field visit to Malekhu was a valuable learning experience for the students. They gained a deeper understanding of the geological challenges and solutions that engineers face when designing and constructing infrastructure in the Himalayas. The field visit also helped the students to develop their problem-solving and teamwork skills.
