On 15 Asoj 2078, an orientation program was held to orient newly admitted students of Master in Earthquake Engineering and Master in Urban Design & Conservation – 2077/78 to the academic milieu and administrative system of Khwopa Engineering College. At this special program, the Chairman of Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party Narayan Man Bijukchhe (Rohit) stressed that Engineers should play a vital role in the development efforts of whole country, and they should always work for the welfare of society and country at large by making best use of the skill, knowledge and aptitude present in them.
Stating that Sovereignty of the country will be compromised by the heritage conservation and other development projects supported with foreign aid, Chairman Bijukchhe said discipline and honesty alone are the hallmarks of the graduates of those colleges run by Bhaktapur Municipality. He also expressed his firm belief that investment in education is never wasted, and if colleges and university are run by local bodies, wider public will get to receive quality education at affordable fee.
In the same program, the Chairman of College Management Committee and Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality Sunil Prajapati pointed out engineering students require honesty in their career and students in general should process feeling to work for the society and country they live in.
Mentioning that students from whole country have got opportunity to pursue higher studies by virtue of these colleges run by local body of Bhaktapur, Mayor Prajapati said societal metamorphosis is difficult to take place until and unless people in key posts of the country doesn't change their present mentality. He added these colleges run by Bhaktapur Municipality are service oriented and they have been established to provide the society with manpower who always contemplate for its welfare.
Vice-Chairman of the College Management Committee Rajani Joshi highlighted the relevance of earthquake engineering and urban design and conservation courses to the promotion and conservation of the heritage created by our ancestors.
Similarly, at the program, Principal of Khwopa Engineering College Er. Sujan Maka and Pricipal of Khwopa College of Engineering Er. Sunil Duwal both spoke of the need of Master's level studies in Earthquake Engineering and Urban Design & Conservation, which were, first, launched in Khwopa Engineering College, for heritage conservation and establishment of organized city. Heads of respective developments Dr. Manjip Shakya and Ar. Libas Phaiju provided the audience of the program with detailed subject specific information.
