The Department of Civil Engineering recently organized a field trip for the seventh-semester students of the 2076 batch. This trip, held from the 23rd to the 26th of Ashoj in 2080, offered students a valuable hands-on experience in the field of hydropower engineering.
The tour was led by a team of experienced engineers, which included Er. Razim Ganesh, Er. Umesh Sukamani, Er. Shyam Sundar Basukala, Er. Saroj Phaiju, Er. Bibek Thapa, and Lab Assistant Amar Karmacharya. The main goal of this excursion was to bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical application, giving students the opportunity to witness hydropower projects in different stages of construction and operation, thereby enhancing their understanding of the subject.
The tour began with a visit to the Sunkoshi Hydropower plant, a 10.5MW power generator operated by the Nepal Electricity Authority in Khadichour, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality. Er. Shiva Raj Timilsina and his team provided valuable insights into the mechanical components of the powerhouse. Students also had the privilege of exploring the civil engineering aspects of the Sunkoshi Hydropower, including its headworks.
On the second day, students were taken to the impressive Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, the largest hydropower project in Nepal, producing 456 MW of power. Er. Rajan Shivakoti guided the students through the various components of the project, offering a close look at the scale and complexity of this remarkable engineering feat. On the same day, students visited the powerhouse of the Singati Hydropower project.
The third day of the excursion featured visits to several locations of historical and cultural significance in Dolakha district, including Jiri and the Dolakha Bhimsen Temple. These visits allowed students to immerse themselves in the rich heritage and history of the region while complementing their technical knowledge with cultural experiences.
