Department of Electronics, Communication and Automation organized a presentation on “The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) And Education, held at Khwopa Engineering College. Vice Principal Er. Rabindra Phoju took the stage to present the ambitious vision for integrating the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) into its educational framework. The event was attended by faculty members and students.
Vice Principle Er. Rabindra Phoju began his presentation by defining the elements of the 4IR and how they would impact the education system. He expressed that the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Education 4.0 are interconnected concepts that represents the integration of advanced technologies and innovative approaches into both industry and education. He also outlined the evolution of the Industrial revolution from IR 1.0 to IR 4.0.
Within the context of IR 4.0, he also mentioned that countries like Japan are already advancing towards the phase of IR 5.0 and Society 5.0. He also provided an example of China, where various technologies have already been implemented to enhance and elevate their education system.
Additionally, due to the differing impacts of the technology, there are predictions of an increase in social pain, as the industrial revolution had led to a division among people into two distinct groups: those who have benefited from these advancements and those who have not.
Furthermore, he emphasized that despite the continuous advancement of technology, AI is not yet as effective as humans, particularly in task that requires complex decision-making and creativity. Currently, AI is mainly utilized for routine tasks and data processing. However, it falls short when it comes to replicating the full range of human capabilities. Therefore, even with the remarkable technologies progress, AI still cannot entirely replace human capabilities.
Finally, he concluded his presentation by emphasizing the importance of developing students as compasses, enabling than to navigate confidently through each phase of their lives.
Following the presentation, Principal Er. Sujan Maka addressed audiences with great enthusiasm for their attentive participation in the presentation. Er. Sujan Maka expressed his firm belief that 4IR was not just about embracing technology but also about fostering a growth mindset among students and educators.
He further emphasized the importance of encouraging imagination and critical thinking, stating that technology alone could not solve complex challenges without human resourcefulness.
He also mentioned that the education system in Nepal has not kept up well with the changes brought by the industrial revolution and technology. The system has been primarily focused on achieving high grades in final exams rather than adapting to the change needs of the modern world. However, at Khwopa Engineering College, we have been implementing various technologies to enhance the quality of educations for our students.
In conclusion, the event marked a significant step forward in embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution and equipping students with skills and mindset needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
