The field visit program was organized by Department of Civil Engineering for the Seventh semester 074 batch for six days from 28th Kartik to 3rd Mansir, 2078. The field visit program was led by Er. Razim Ganesh, Dr. Subeg Man Bijukchhen, Er. Umesh Sukamani, Er. Shyam Sundar Basukala, Er. Saroj Phaiju and Lab Assistant Amar Karmacharya. The field visit program was about Irrigation Engineering and Hydropower Engineering subjects for 95 students. The objectives of the tour were to visualize theoretical knowledge based on syllabus at the Irrigation project sites and Hydropower project sites and to gain extra knowledge about the subject matters.
The major sites visited were Sunsari Morang Irrigation Project, Chatara Hydropower project, Puwa Khola Hydropower Project (Illam) and Kankai Irrigation Project (Jhapa). In Sunsari Morang Irrigation Project, the operator Mr. Khila Nath Subedi and Er. Krishna Joshi had briefed about the irrigation headworks, canal, silt dredger and cross drainage structures. Chatara Hydropower project nearby the irrigation project was also observed. The Sunsari Morang Irrigation canal water was used for the power development as well. At Kankai Irrigation Project at Kankai. Mr. Raman Parajuli, the agriculture engineer explained about headworks, silt ejector, syphon and escapes.
In all, the field visit was an opportunity for both the students and faculties to learn the practical aspects of the projects. Theoretical knowledge can be visualized and such field visits should be encouraged so that the students can widen the ken of Knowledge.
