While regulating effectively online classes of the running semesters in different programs, Khwopa Engineering College (KhEC) was unsettled by the situation created due to the elongated effects of Covid-19 on teaching-learning activities, especially as to how practical classes should be run and final examinations should be held. KhEC, as it does when and where required, conducted an online survey of students and gathered 801 responses, which indicated 57% of the students of present concern were not vaccinated against COVID-19 at all, while 139 students have received the first dose for either Verocell or Covishield. The survey also informed that 85 students recovered from the pandemic, and 8 students are still suffering from it.
At this juncture, KhEC was contemplating vaccination as an immediate solution to the present situation, which can somehow make way for practical classes and examinations and also consulting in the meantime with Bhaktapur Municipality and other concerned bodies in this regard. Eventually, KhEC got Khwopa Hospital, a pillar member of Khwopa Circle, to organize Vaccine Distribution Program (AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson) on 04 Bhadra 2078, with the objective of providing vaccines against COVID-19 to those students of the college who are in dire need of it before attending practical classes and appearing for upcoming final examinations of the running odd semesters. A total of 564 students living at present in Kathmandu Valley and Kavre district benefitted from this one-day program.
The college will also be considering further such a program in the immediate future for its remaining unvaccinated members to alleviate the situation at present for making a conducive academic environment.
