Upon discussion with the concerned individuals and organizations, People’s Representatives of Bhaktapur Municipality came up with a brilliant way out to fight against COVID-19 locally in the context of the third wave of it in offing as indicated by experts. Accordingly, well equipped and well managed Khwopa Hospital COVID-19 Isolation Centre and High Dependency Centre (HDU) has been set up at Khwopa Hospital. Five vehicles are in regular service for these purposes at the hospital. Khwopa Hospital team has literally full confidence of giving quality services, not less than any other general hospital of the country.
Very importantly, this effort of making Bhaktapur Centre for Health Care, as it is already Centre of Excellence in education, is being materialized without any financial support of Nepal Government, but with spontaneous moral and financial support of local organizations, including cooperatives, schools, colleges, and generous individuals from within the district and the country, and even those Nepalese living abroad. This has been possible simply because Municipality has had the only aim to save people’s lives at this juncture.
More than four crore rupees have already been collected for the purpose of equipping COVID-19 treatment units with ventilators, ICU, oxygen production plants, etc. In such a cherished venture, Khwopa Engineering College and Khwopa College of Engineering have jointly provided 25 lakhs rupees on behalf of the institutions. Furthermore, the teaching and non-teaching staffs of the colleges have each contributed individually the amount equivalent to the 3-day remuneration at least; some of them have contributed remarkably more than the minimum amount, demonstrating their spontaneous consent to the efforts on the part of local representatives of Bhaktapur Municipality
