On 12th August, a group of 46 students from B. Architecture students (079 batch) from fourth semester visited Shree Sheeladevi primary school at Dhoksan, Shankharapur municipality as a part of study in Design studio-IV course. The group was led by design studio teachers Ar. Archana Bade Shrestha, Ar. Robina Manandhar, Ar. Sunaina Shakya, Ar. Rupak Dangol, Ar. Meeta Suwal and Ar. Ashok K. Sainju with the aim of exploring the space planning and construction materials and technologies used in the school which is a case study for their school design project.
The school have the new extension of three classroom and a multifunctional library (currently using as classroom) after Nepal earthquake in 2015 designed by Supertecture gUG. The school extension was built with different innovative and locally available materials like old windows, rammed earth (earth+bamboo+straw), stone, waste bricks etc. Two blocks are under construction which are built with thermal insulation technology in order to maintain thermal comfort. This visit will help the students to enhance their knowledge and support for their school design project.
