On Sunday, July 28, 2024, the Nepal Research and Education Network (NREN) successfully wrapped up its 19th System and Network Member Engineers Meeting in Kathmandu. The event featured a comprehensive update on the NREN Network Operation Center (NOC) activities by Mr. Nirajan Parajuli. The meeting was attended by 30 participants from various institutions.
Notably, Mr. Shiva Ram Awal from the Department of Computer Engineering at Khwopa Engineering College was among those in attendance.
Following the meeting, NREN hosted a hands-on workshop titled "DNS Lab," led by NREN Network Expert Indivar Badal. This workshop aimed to enhance participants' skills in setting up Nameservers, diagnosing and troubleshooting DNS issues, and understanding DNS Security Extensions.
The workshop included an in-depth examination of BIND 9, a leading DNS software suite. Participants explored key features such as TSIG, nsupdate, IPv6 support, RNDC, views, multiprocessor support, Response Rate Limiting (RRL), DNSSEC, and broad portability. The role of RNDC in facilitating secure, remote configuration updates was emphasized, along with the security improvements in BIND 9 that address vulnerabilities in earlier versions like BIND 4 and 8.
